APS Bank hosted the 39th session in its APS Talks series, titled ‘The science behind the sport’, delivered by Luigi Sammut, Sports Scientist at the Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC). The session explored how sports science helps athletes understand and enhance their performance through evidence-based testing and specialised assessments.
Mr Sammut explained how scientific tools provide precise insights that go beyond consumer fitness devices, supporting both performance improvement and rehabilitation. He also highlighted the work of the MOC Functional Diagnostic Lab in supporting national athletes across multiple disciplines, while emphasising the importance of lifestyle factors such as sleep, hydration, recovery, and balanced training as key to long-term performance and overall wellbeing.
Commenting on the session, APS Bank CSR Manager Jeremy Vassallo, said “Through APS Talks, we aim to create space for informed discussions on topics that impact everyday life, including health, performance and wellbeing.”
