Next APS Business talk - The rise in inflation and interest rates: Macroeconomic impacts

The upcoming APS Business talk ‘The rise in inflation and interest rates: Macroeconomic impacts’ will be live streamed online on Monday 13 March 2023 at 09.00. Presented by Dr Aaron G. Grech Ph.D., Chief Economist at the Central Bank of Malta, the talk will look at the immediate aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid rise in inflation world-wide. The speaker will analyse these trends internationally and explain their causes, leading to an evaluation of the policy responses. The talk will also examine the local situation and noticeable differences, both in terms of inflation outcomes and also policy responses.  Finally, there will be a reference to future scenarios for inflation and how these may impact economic developments in Malta.

Dr Grech has been in his role since 2016, with responsibility for overseeing the Bank’s economic analysis and research activities, including advising the Governor on monetary policy issues. He also serves as Deputy Chairman of the Malta Statistics Authority. Prior to these roles, he was for seven years a research fellow at the London School of Economics and also worked as an Economic Advisor to the UK government. Dr Grech holds degrees from the University of Malta, University College London, and the London School of Economics.
