Education being at the heart of APS Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, the Bank proudly supports the first Readathon organised by The National Literacy Agency and the President’s Trust.

Funds collected from sponsors and from donations for every book the participating children read will be going towards creating educational resources to aid children who are visually impaired. This marathon was also designed to promote reading amongst primary school children and empowering them to help their peers who are unable to read.

The Readathon saw the participation of over 1,000 students from 22 primary schools. During a ceremony held at the Antoine de Paule hall at San Anton Palace on 11 July, the students who read most books and therefore collecting the largest amount of donations were awarded as the winners of this initiative. The ceremony, held under the patronage of H. E. President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, was attended by the children’s parents and representatives from the participating schools. In her speech the President further encouraged the importance of reading and the appreciation for children who show solidarity with their peers.

Mr Hervé Delpech, Head of Strategy and Marketing at APS Bank, commented that, “For APS, supporting such an initiative is a way to bring to life our commitment for social progress, part of our community bank spirit.”
