In line with its commitment to supporting noble endeavours undertaken by the local community, APS Bank once again sponsored the Youth of the Year Award, which was this year presented to Agara Foundation.

Agara Foundation was set up by two volunteers whose paths converged after a trip in Ethiopia during the summer of 2013. Together, they combined their passions of volunteering and technology by collecting second-hand laptops, formatting them, installing software and then using them abroad to teach IT skills to people around the world. They have so far reached the Kenyan, Ethiopian, Lebanese, Romanian, and Peruvian communities, and even set up teaching laboratories in some of these places.

Reflected in their name (which in Ethiopian means “Move Along Together”) as well as in their vision, the ultimate goal of this group is to empower individuals in their respective environments by giving them tools to voice their thoughts. Announced by Moviment Kerygma, the award was presented during a ceremony under the patronage of the President of Malta, Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who said she was “honoured to witness the showcasing of the voluntary work of so many youths.”

Also present at the ceremony on Friday, 16th February, APS Bank’s Head of Strategy & Marketing, Hervé Delpech reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to “supporting community empowerment in the public and volunteering sectors and inspiring individuals to keep working towards the betterment of society at large”.
