Malta Bankers’ Association hosts important conference

A conference entitled ‘Key Issues Affecting Smaller European Banks' was recently organised by the Malta Bankers' Association (MBA) and the European Banking Federation. The event, held on May 3, 2017 at the Malta Financial Services Authority Conference Rooms in Attard, was attended by top industry experts and practitioners from across Europe.

Key Issues Affecting Smaller European Banks

The Conference attendees, who included senior officials of APS Bank, were treated to insights about the forces currently driving the banking industry, more specifically the effects of ever-tougher regulations on financial stability, the digital agenda and risks in cybersecurity, besides discussing whether there is a crisis in correspondent banking.

APS Bank CEO, Marcel Cassar, who, in his capacity as MBA Deputy Chairman, moderated the panel discussion on correspondent banking and de-risking, commented: "The line-up of eminent speakers discussed the risk which a withdrawal of correspondent banks could have on financial stability, growth and development goals, potentially leading to financial exclusion of certain categories of customers, business lines, jurisdictions and regions."
