25-year old San Gwann resident Mr James Borg Cumbo, founder and president of missionary work organisation Karibu! Malta, has won the 2016 APS-sponsored ‘Youth of the Year' Award.
Borg Cumbo was presented with the award by Kerygma Movement's President Bernice Micallef at an event held recently under the auspices of the President of Malta, Mrs Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
Other nominees for this year's Award were: Alan Joseph Buhagiar from Zabbar, Fabio Cini from Zebbug Gozo, Sarah Magro from Vittoriosa, the Mellieha Youth Group and Sara Portelli from Birkirkara. They were described by the President as "peace-builders of our community who help expose the truth of adverse situations which are unfolding across the world".
Borg Cumbo commenced the Karibu! Malta experience in 2013 and, together with a group of friends, started regularly travelling to Kenya to help provide the children with basic needs. He spearheaded a number of projects, including the building of rooms to be used as classrooms and offices, the installation of a rainwater collection facility and others to be executed in his upcoming trips.
