APS Bank supported UM Racing, the University of Malta’s Formula Student team, as it achieved one of its strongest performances to date at Formula Student UK 2026, held at the Silverstone Circuit. Competing against 69 university teams from around the world, the student-led team placed 11th overall and ranked as the fourth-best electric vehicle (EV) team. The team also secured fourth place in Sprint, fifth place in Acceleration and recorded the sixth-fastest lap time in Endurance.
The achievement followed a landmark year for UM Racing, which successfully designed and built its new electric race car, the EV26, within a single academic year. Bringing together students from different academic disciplines, the project showcased the value of teamwork, innovation and determination. The team was also the third EV to complete the competition’s scrutineering process, allowing it to maximise track time throughout the event. Despite an early end to the Endurance race following a mechanical issue, UM Racing delivered one of its strongest international performances to date.
