The latest session of the Malta Sustainability Forum (MSF), launched on 13 July 2026, explored the role of women in the blue economy in Malta and across the wider European context. Bringing together different perspectives and lived experiences, the discussion looked at the opportunities and challenges women encounter in sectors including maritime transport, innovation and the circular use of marine resources.

Beyond the industries themselves, the session considered what it takes to ensure that more women can contribute, lead and thrive in a sector that is becoming increasingly important to Malta’s future. It encouraged reflection on the barriers that still exist, while exploring how greater inclusion can help create a more sustainable, innovative and resilient blue economy for everyone.

Rachael Blackburn, Head of Culture at APS Bank, said: “The transition towards a more sustainable blue economy is also an opportunity to reflect on who benefits from that progress. Through the Malta Sustainability Forum, we wanted to explore how greater inclusion can help ensure that women are empowered to shape the future of a sector that is so important to Malta.”
