On Tuesday 15 April 2025, the sacred setting of St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta was filled with the powerful and moving sounds of Mozart’s Requiem, performed during the APS Bank Holy Week Concert. The event formed part of the Bank’s ongoing support for Malta’s cultural and musical heritage.
The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Michael Laus, led the evening with a compelling interpretation of the famous work. The orchestra was joined by soloists, Nicola Said, soprano, Graziella Debattista, mezzo-soprano, Alan Sciberras, tenor, and Noel Galea, bass, whose performances were met with admiration by the audience.
Enhancing the performance was the participation of Coro Kemonia, under the direction of Salvatore Scinaldi, which brought depth and emotional resonance to Mozart’s final, unfinished composition. The blend of choral and orchestral elements created a profound atmosphere of reflection and spiritual intensity, appropriate for the Holy Week setting.
Jeremy Vassallo, CSR Manager at APS Bank, commented: “Mozart’s Requiem explores timeless themes of sorrow, remembrance, and redemption. Supporting this concert aligns with APS Bank’s mission to enrich the cultural life of our community and provide spaces where people can come together to reflect, appreciate, and connect through music.”
The concert drew an engaged and diverse audience, further highlighting the value of live classical music as a shared cultural experience. APS Bank remains committed to promoting the arts as an integral part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
