During June 2025, APS Bank colleagues shared their knowledge and experience at a number of important local and international conferences. Topics covered included fraud prevention, financial governance, internal controls, banking regulations, and sustainable finance.

Ronald Mizzi, Chief Financial Officer, took part in a panel discussion during an event organised by Deloitte, titled The CFO Agenda: Governance and internal controls as strategic enablers for growth. The event explored how CFOs can take a leading role in strengthening internal controls within a fast-changing, tech-driven environment. The panel looked at key trends shaping the future of internal controls and how businesses are responding to an increasingly complex risk landscape.

Matthew Swain, Head of Sustainability, joined a panel at the Sustainable Lending in Malta event, organised by Institute of Financial Services in collaboration with KPMG and held at the MFSA. The session, titled Challenges and Opportunities in Sustainable Lending, focused on green finance and the evolving regulatory landscape. Matthew shared practical insights on the complexities of green lending, climate risk, and ESG regulation, while also highlighting the steps organisations and the wider economy can take to help accelerate sustainable finance in Malta.

Cynthia Borg, Head of Financial Crime Compliance & MLRO, and Gilbert Gatt, FCC Manager, Fraud Oversight and Investigations, joined a panel discussion at a conference hosted by the Malta Bankers’ Association (MBA). The event focused on The Fraud Landscape in Malta and Beyond. Cynthia Borg, who also serves as Deputy Chair of the MBA’s Financial Crime, Cyber Crime and Fraud Standing Committee, moderated the panel, while Gilbert Gatt shared key perspectives from the banking sector. The session, titled Fighting Fraud in Malta: Building a Coordinated Approach, brought together regulators, law enforcement, and industry representatives to discuss how collaboration, intelligence sharing and stronger defences can help combat fraud more effectively.

Ray Bonnici, Chief People Officer at APS Bank, said: “Engaging in these conferences allows our people to bring their expertise to the table while also learning from others across the industry. It’s an important part of how we grow as professionals and how the Bank is committed to excellence.”
