APS Bank hosted the 40th session in its APS Talk series, titled Migration in Malta: Stories, stereotypes, and facts, presented by Regine Nguini Dang, Director of the African Media Association Malta.

The session looked beyond the labels and headlines often associated with migration, focusing on the experiences of people navigating new lives in unfamiliar environments. Ms Nguini Dang spoke about the impact of social exclusion, harmful stereotypes and limited legal pathways, which can leave individuals vulnerable and push some towards dangerous journeys.

The discussion also explored how public perceptions of migration are shaped, highlighting the need for more balanced reporting and greater representation of migrant voices. Ms Nguini Dang emphasised that integration is a two-way process built on mutual respect, and highlighted culture, food, the arts and film as powerful ways of bringing communities together.

Commenting on the session, APS Bank CSR Manager Jeremy Vassallo said, “At a time when migration is often the subject of public debate, it is important to create spaces where facts, experiences and different perspectives can be shared openly. Greater understanding starts with dialogue, and dialogue starts with listening.”
