APS Bank hosted the 38th session in its APS Talks series, Dementia and the brain: Awareness and wellbeing, presented by Prof. Charles Scerri. The Professor shared insights from his lifelong work on memory, explaining how his research on alzheimer’s disease developed into a wider focus on the social and educational aspects of dementia in Malta.
The talk explored the distinction between alzheimer’s disease and dementia. It also examined key risk factors and covered how these risks can be reduced through healthy lifestyle choices, including regular physical activity, mental engagement and a Mediterranean diet. Prof. Scerri also highlighted the importance of dementia-friendly environments, family support and community awareness in improving quality of life for those affected.
“Through APS Talks, we aim to provide a platform for open discussion on topics that impact wellbeing and society as a whole, while continuing to raise awareness on issues that matter to our community,” said Jeremy Vassallo, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.
