Farewell, Mgr Philip Calleja

16/08/2022 13:15:00

APS Bank expresses its deep grief at the loss of Mgr Philip Calleja.

While best known as a man of the Church, Mgr Calleja was a giant in public life and will be remembered for his work among uprooted people, from post-war Maltese migrants to pioneering the plight of asylum seekers in Malta. His unstinting involvement in the Emigrants’ Commission founded in 1950, and its beehive Dar l-Emigrant which he inaugurated in Valletta in 1971, are testimony to his enormous love and dedication to Maltese emigrants and his great, Samaritan heart for the refugee.

APS Bank’s collaboration with Mgr Calleja included the publication of two books of his memoirs featured on Lehen is-Sewwa between 2009 and 2012 (Grajjiet li ma ninsa qatt Vols.1 & 2). The Bank had also supported the digital archiving and library project of the Migration Museum at Dar l-Emigrant.

Thank you Mgr Calleja, for over 70 years of dedication and devotion to your beloved motherland.
