Trading on China's New Silk Road

Trading on China's New Silk Road

APS Bank is organising a series of talks titled ‘APS talks’. This is the second talk of this series titled ‘Trading on China's New Silk Road’, which will be presented by Dr Marcus Schütz on 10th January 2019 at The Hub - PwC, 78 Mill Street, Qormi.

Trade across continents is far older than the age of globalization. One example for this is the corridor on which silk, spices and other precious goods were traded through Central Asia - commonly known as the Silkroad. Since 1979 China has seen an unprecedented economic development, lifting hundreds of missions of people out of poverty in just one generation. Since 2013 China has initiated a trillion-dollar infrastructure development program to connect Asia and Europe. This is sometimes called “China’s new Silkroad” or “One Belt, one Road Initiative”. What is this project and what are the economic targets? What can countries learn from China’s development for themselves? What does it mean for Foreign Direct Investment, trade, and logistics of the future? How is Malta positioned in this?

These and other questions we would like to discuss during the talk by Dr Marcus Schütz.
